Roundup: Astros Send Scout to Check On Clemens

The Astros’ interim manager, Tony DeFrancesco, managed Clemens’s son Koby at Class AAA Oklahoma City last season and said he repeatedly came across Clemens. DeFrancesco said he was not surprised Clemens still wanted to pitch and said he believed Clemens was serious about returning to the majors.

ROYALS 1, RAYS 0 Eric Hosmer’s two-out single in the 10th inning drove in the only run in visiting Kansas City’s victory in a classic pitchers’ duel between the Royals’ Luke Hochevar and the Rays’ David Price.

ORIOLES 5, RANGERS 3 Nate McLouth’s two-run home run ignited Baltimore’s four-run fifth inning, and the Orioles held off Texas for the road win.

ATHLETICS TURN TRIPLE PLAY The Oakland Athletics turned the third triple play in the major leagues this season during the fifth inning against the Minnesota Twins.

Justin Morneau and Ryan Doumit singled against Oakland starter Brett Anderson before Trevor Plouffe hit a sharp grounder to third baseman Josh Donaldson. Donaldson stepped on the bag, then made a quick relay to second baseman Adam Rosales, who threw to first baseman Chris Carter to complete the 5-4-3 triple play. 

CABRERA ASSOCIATE BARRED Commissioner Bud Selig barred Juan Nunez, an associate of Melky Cabrera who tried to create a fake Web site to help Cabrera fight a suspension, from all team clubhouses.
